VJ HUNT 07

Last Saturday we had a VTR for our inter-highschool VJ Hunt 07 at A-311. Highschool from various schools in Pampanga had their representatives for the competition. Our call time is at 12 noon but as usual I arrived not on time. Hahaha! Anyway, the screening hasn’t started so Gean, president of SAMASKOM and served as the event manager, didn’t get mad. As we shot I saw a diverse personality of each contestants. Some did it in a candid way, others in a patweetums style and some geared their confidence and showed how adept they are in the English language, which made me somehow intimidated. Its like am nothing to them when it comes to the usage of the English language. I felt pity but took it in a positive way maybe I need to pay attention in my weakness. And so I borrowed a grammar book in the library early this morning, I hope it would be a good help. Anyhow, back to the VJ Hunt competition, I’m proud that we found this guys they were really talented as well as cool and they are game for the contest. I may say each has its own edge, so for the judges make the right choice.

Women

I’m used into being single that at the age of 19 I’m totally virgin. (I mean it from top to bottom!) Others may laugh or even make fun of me but sorry it won’t even bother me, that's how proud I am. Call me Maria Clara or a trying hard painosente girl but that’s how I want things to be and even plan to keep it, till I met the right man. I’m not a geek, nerd or even manang, like girls of my age I sometimes dress a bit daring and go parties everywhere. And I also did have a boyfriend so don’t think I’m weird. I’m just like any teenage girl perhaps that attitude of mine define my uniqueness from others.

That uniqueness of mine I guess is the reason behind my reaction on certain things. I’m so vulgar in commenting issues about feminism especially when women are being abused. I hate it! Anger arouse all over my body, I feel the animosity towards people who take advantage on women. I always caught myself asking why such things happen. I mean what makes them so bad. Then I taught perhaps the victim did something or maybe she let it happen. To harsh for a victim to hear but that maybe true. We certainly know things just don’t happen, something or someone let it happen. Hence, the victim may defend she never thought things would lead to something like this but hey that’s our obligation. We should always anticipate and think the necessary effect of our actions. I may sound arrogant and a know all type of person but I act like this out of concern. I don’t want to hear stuff like girl being raped on a date or to see another explicitly sex scandal.

Women are ought to be respected, I know we are not that strong as man does. In one way or another we will be violated with our weaknesses but that doesn’t mean we give up. We are not born to be losers. We fight for what we believe in and for our right. As a woman we must use our strength and push our skills to the limit. We might be aggressive sometimes and do silly stuff but we should never neglect our responsibilities.

Life’s reality is full of threat. Temptation comes anywhere, anytime but as long as you stick to your dreams and accompanied your journey with values, nothing can beat you up.

Online Newspapers vs Print Newspapers

“Thousands of world newspapers at your fingertips.” Is what online newspapers offers us. Now, you can access any newspapers daily by just a click of the mouse. News are now produced and distributed via internet. Many newspapers have integrated into an online newspapers to satisfy the needs of its readers.

Compare with print newspapers, online newpapers has the advantage of presenting breaking news in almost anytime of the day. It allows newspapers to effectively compete with broadcast journalism when it comes to being timely. It can now be the outlet of reader’s needs of daily changing information. However, it may seem as an effective tool in supplying this needs, attention and loyalty of the readers vies with the many websites within the net. According to an article I’ve read, an average online user appears to spend considerably less time reading articles than the average reader of a printed edition. Moreover, setting up an online newspapers weighs a lot of money on the side of the owner. The profitability of online newspapers seems to be not that essential with the results of continuing declining numbers of newspapers readership.

Online newspapers perhaps may just simply tied up with a printed newspapers since the two are intertwined. Online newspapers, for me can be a brochures. It may serve as an advertisement and gives readers a glimpse of what is instore for the printed newspapers. It can be an effective marketing strategy to entice readers but never a replacement for print newspapers.

Mike Arroyo as a Private Citizen

Though First Gentleman Mike Arroyo is considered still a private citizen, you would always spot him making the headline of every newspaper, may it be local or abroad.

He is always hounded of a variety of issues. Just recently, his battle between the class suits lodged by about 60 journalists continues, as he filed a counterclaim to dismiss the case.

Atty. Rondain, lawyer of Mike, said the complainants failed to pay the right amount of docket fees that is estimated to be over P9 million against the P500 million collective amounts of damages the journalists asked. However, I find it strange as I go over to find the filed case article this appears:

“About 40 journalists, press groups and news groups have filed a class action suit against Philippine President Gloria Arroyo's husband, claiming his libel suits against them violated press freedom. The class action, filed in suburban Makati city, accused Arroyo's husband, lawyer Jose Miguel Arroyo, of "abuse of pride and violation of freedom of the press" and demanded 12.5 million pesos (254,200 dollars) in damages.”

---Asia.news.yahoo.com

It is clearly stated that the group of journalists is only demanding for 12.5 million pesos damages and not merely asking for 500 million pesos, as said by Atty. Rondain. The figures are far related from each other, is he as phony as his client?

Another was that of Sen. Lacson accusing him for stashing over P270 million in laundered funds and peddled the ever-controversial Jose Pidal account.

I’ve also read several newspaper quoting a former secretary of the president as claiming Mike Arroyo accepted bribes to work towards rescinding a presidential veto on a local telecommunications firm.

Perhaps its true that the first gentleman had the wary of the Imelda Syndrome, making marks in every presidential spouse as the prime suspect for abuse and wrongdoing in the tradition started by Imelda Marcos, regardless of whether or not there is basis, as affirmed by William Esposo of Inquirer.

He is constantly meddling in government matters. Maybe he needs to be reminded that he is not privileged to use the president power, though he is the spouse, moreover to abuse it. Hence, the president is not bestowed to abuse the power we entailed to her.
