Future

Remember the ever famous line of our national hero “Kabataan ang pagasa nang bayan”, a quote that has been up lifting our spirits for decades or perhaps a century or more. That despite of all the tragedies and endless political crisis in our country there is still hope, in which us the youth holds it. But come to think of it, are we really the hope, when in fact as early as a youth we are dealing in our own landscape that seems to grasp us and can’t escape. I’m talking about our own dilemmas as youth like engaging into pre-marital sex, broken families, teenage pregnancy, addiction and some of those self problems making us dysfunctional to perform our role in society, since we are preoccupied with these dilemmas.

To become the hope of the future we must first plan of our own future. I know everyone has a dream and a sort of pictured their future but does your actions resembles to your plans? If you plan something then you should aligning your path towards it. Therefore, the second one is put things into actions. What if problems occur and you commit mistakes? As quotation would always remind us, there is sunshine after the rain. Learn from your mistakes and stand up for a new beginning. And that would be may last step, for whenever a person learns to accept his mistakes and imply them he will realize that no matter what happen he can always start and patch up things.

Life was never easy. We often hear people say life sucks and that’s the reality we have to deal with but no one says we can’t fix and make it better.

Our country maybe enlisted as one of the chaotic; hence we are called a third world country but we can change that, by simply doing our task and living our life with the best way we can. Perhaps, it would take another decade to put our country into progress but hence at least we can say to the future youth, the evolution of change started with us.

We Regulate Media

I had the privilege to attend the Pinoy Media Congress in Miriam College last November 27-28 where ABS CBN is the main sponsor of the event. It was well participated by various schools around the country, especially those who are inclined in the field of mass communication.

The speakers shared with us their knowledge, experience and gave us a glimpse on how they handle their company. From the immense impact of media to influence the mass boiling down to the mass being the regulator of the media. We are all aware of the impact of media and in the forum a bounty of questions where raise about ABS CBN being concern of quality programs. Some from the audience cite examples of programs being shown in the stations which they think lacked in quality program or shows immorality and the speakers explains that those programs do have quality its just they are being presented in different format to suits viewer’s taste.

Another asked that perhaps the company is more concern on ratings that’s why they continue to present those programs, in which I got confused with the ideality of the audience because it seems that they underestimate the importance of ratings. I do agree with the speakers that ratings is as important as quality programs, they should be working hand in hand because first, as a media station you should be earning profit and you can achieve that through ratings, second though you present a very quality program if no one is watching it, it would not make any sense. As Ms Luchi Cruz Valdes said its like preaching in an empty church, as much as they wanted to present probe stuff they simply can’t because rating matters.

Sometimes I feel that we as audience are very reluctant, all we want is to blame others. Yes, we do oppose with what they present, we say that it shows immorality or it violates some of our norms but hey why are we still watching them. Perhaps its time for us to evolve and be an active participant of the media, if we don’t like something and it seems that it needs to be change send a message to the station and address your views. Ms. Charo Santos even stated that they value feedbacks and listens to the demands of the viewers. Or if you are very indolent to do that as Ms Karen Davila said you have a choice switch off the television set. I’m sure if most of us will do that, it would make an effect on the ratings and slowly it would change its format or lose its air time.

We must be mindful that we as audience play a vital role in the media and we can regulate it.

What Fears Me

I have this belief in life that God gives us struggle to test our faith and to be strong, so I always anticipate for that struggle. I lived a life that is so blessed; my father is a good provider and always thinks for our future. Though he is always in abroad, for he's an overseas worker, we never felt the distance and keep in touch. I must say both my sister and I was daddy's girl because he always spoiled us in things we want, and of course with loved. My mom is quite strict and very responsible in taking care of us. She's very diligent in doing household chores and even in managing the farm. She makes sure all the hard works of my dad are being paid off with good things. With all of these I can say, I could not ask for more and to be just thankful to God for everything but hence, I never experience the struggle, and that what fears me. If in every life of a person God would test his faith when will that happen to me? And isn't when we are too much happy it corresponds to a past sadness? But why then in my situation I never felt that sadness. I’m scared and often pray to be gentle when giving me that struggle for I don't want to be as hard as it is as the happiness I feel right now.
