Stand Up Reporting

As mass communication students we are trained to be future media practitioner. Part of it was stand up reporting, where a reporter on the spot reports the current event and can include an interview. So you may tell its not an easy job. For there are tendency to buckle up, forget some lines or worse, to be totally mental block in front of the cam. But on the brighter side, it can be repeated as long as the battery is charged fully and an enough memory for the camcorder. And of course, you can’t miss the importance of time, reporting is often bound by time and wasting it, is a no, no.

And for this day I had test myself to do stand up reporting. After 3 times of postponement, finally we experience it. It was a first time so I was expecting it to be disastrous but I guess it turns out good though it was not the best. Perhaps the practice helps a lot. Thanks to Kuya Rovio, a criminology student, who is very cooperative and didn’t give me a hard time to have him for my ambush interview. Unlike, some tricycle drivers on the side gate (take note I said “some” and never did I generalized them) were obstinate. I consider chasing and convincing them as the hardest part of the activity. I was losing hope when Melford was counting my 15 minutes duration and still can’t find an interviewee. It took us to changed location to find Mang Sergio, my savior. He was an angel sent above! Hahaha! He was very outspoken and even told me he likes sharing his points of view to the youth because we are the one who’ll face the consequence of this year up coming election.

Anyhow, our stand up reporting is all about the up coming 2007 May election though mine, focus on the proclamation rally of our President for the team Unity in Pampanga because I think it is interesting to know what her Cabalen have to say as she endorsing them.

This is from Archie Sangalang

Well in this blog I remember my own stand up reporting. I managed to interview someone outside the campus but not on the first try when we ought to interview an auf student about the incoming election right infront of the videocam. I guess I really messed up on my first try, they all backed out.
I was re-scheduled on the other day and good thing I found someone brave enough to face the videocam while interviewed. I guess I got lucky this time. And on that day I did not even bother if I look good or not infront of the videocam. Because what I was thinking it would still be days before I face a real media camera

I can still remember when we had a stand up reporting I wasn’t really prepared for it. It’s because I wasn’t able to make a script for my stand up reporting. Apparently, when I came to school all of my classmates were practicing their script already. Actually, I am freaking out and I still don’t know what to do so I just start making my script. Afterwards, I finished making my script. Then I start reading and practicing it to be ready for the stand up reporting. Subsequently, I also forgot that I still don’t have someone to interview so I went upstairs of the A building to look for an interviewee. I was on the third floor of the building and went to the guidance office and talk to one guidance counselor. Consequently when it was my turn already I got nervous where in my hand was a bit shaking while facing the camera. Then after I finished the stand up reporting I got relive because at last I made it thought it didn’t turn out very good.

hi kay ann, how i wish you knew my worries last proclamation rally. like what i have said on other classmates, i was really worried because it was my first time to experience that, because in Korea, we never have experienced that. one thing that added to my worries is that there were many people who were there that caused for me to have headache. i was also worried because i did not know what to do because the people who are runing for the positions were all speaking in tagalog, now what will i expect of course, i will not understand. but still , i am still thankful becuase i was included to be given a chance for that, eventhough i am a korean, still i have had a chance to do that wonderful media exposure ecperience. how are you anyway, hope we could know each other better.
